What equipment does my child need for remote learning?
Minimum requirements:
What's your lateness and recording policy?
We've listened to our community of parents and heard that students joining late could be majorly disruptive to our classes. That's why we've taken the following steps to improve the experience of all DigitallyCoolCoders students:
All recordings of classes will be available only to the students within that session, the teacher and the DCC’s team. Recordings are deleted the following Friday after a course ends for privacy reasons.
How do you ensure my child's safety with online classrooms?
At DCC education, we are deeply committed to ensuring a secure and safe environment for your child’s learning. As part of our commitment to your child's safety, we have implemented the following measures to secure our online classrooms.
We rigorously vet our teachers and ensure their credentials as part of our recruitment process. We are constantly reviewing internet regulatory guidance over the coming days and weeks while making any necessary changes to ensure that all our students have a safe experience!
What should I do if I need to reschedule a session?
We understand that life happens, and plans can change. We kindly ask that you contact your tutor or one of our team at least 48 hours in advance of a lesson if you need to reschedule for any reason. If you do not provide 24 hours' notice, we will charge the usual session rate, as our tutors are still paid for their time!
How long have you been running coding camps?
DCC has been running coding classes since 2016. We also host after school clubs in a few schools local to Hackney.
Where is your main office located?
We don’t currently have a fixed location as we have always been attached to local primary schools in Hackney, while our online classes are done remotely and have only started after Covid-19.
Do you offer camps during the school holidays?
Yes! We offer seasonal camps throughout the year, primarily:
These usually run between one and two weeks in duration and up to six weeks in the summer holidays. Please check our courses page for details on all our upcoming camps.
Can I use childcare vouchers?
We currently don’t take childcare vouchers. Hopefully, in the future.
What age groups do you teach?
Our courses and camps cover children aged from 5 to 17. You can find details of all our upcoming classes on our site. We have recently started working with 18-year-olds and above for specific courses. The tutors assign to this age group has intense experience working with them.
My child is a total beginner, should I still sign up?
We tend to recommend that children be at least a yr 1 student before attending a DCC, as they need to have had some exposure to reading and some use of a computer. Most of our intermediate courses are suitable for coding beginners. However, we do recommend that students have some familiarity with touch typing and logging in and out and getting to the internet browser ie. Google search etc
Can I book individual days at camp?
No! it will be better to learn a topic over two weeks usually.
My child doesn't have a laptop - will an iPad or tablet suffice instead?
Unfortunately, the programs and tools we use in our classes do not run adequately on tablet devices. But you a happy to do a test run and let us know, please speak to us beforehand.
How can I keep track of my child's work?
Depending on some of the platforms used, there are progression charts to follow while other platforms may just be showcasing projected completed while others require feedback forms and quizzes are done at times. There are several ways you can keep in touch with how your child is getting on, please feel free to email your teacher.

How do I talk to my child's teacher?
There are a few ways you can get in touch with your child's teacher during camp. For most things, we recommend messaging them on whatsup an app which allows parents to communicate with the teachers and see photos of their child’s work. Our teachers will aim to respond as soon as possible.

Our Minis course is an exception, in which we offer parents of first-time coders a full refund for the remaining days if their child does not enjoy the time after their first day. We do this because we know that coming to camp as a first-time coder can be a bit daunting, and some children aren't sure if it's what they want to do with their school break!
We understand that customers not in the UK might not be able to use credit later; therefore we offer overseas customers a refund up to 14 days before camp begins.
If for whatever reason, DigitallyCoolCoders cancels a camp, all customers will be refunded by seven days.
Fees are non-returnable for students arriving late, leaving early, or missing a day of camp for any reason.
